Grant Borland’s latest as Soek takes you back to those years when scraped knees didn’t slow you down and summer days lasted forever. The single recreates that invincible feeling kids have before life gets complicated. The piano moves around with the same energy a child has, bouncing, unpredictable, but always purposeful. Live strings recorded by Martin Kutnar and Session Strings Studio in Croatia add genuine warmth that you can actually hear and feel.

Mixing acoustic piano with synthesizers gives the piece depth without overdoing anything. Piotr Wieczorek handled the mixing and mastering, and he clearly understood the assignment. Everything has room to exist on its own while still working together as a whole. With no words at all, Soek gets the point across purely with instruments. You’ll probably want to listen multiple times because new details keep popping up. If you’re into modern composers like Ólafur Arnalds or Max Richter, you’ll find similar ground here. The recording process spanned from Michigan to Croatia to Vancouver, which shows the dedication Borland put into getting every part right.
