Tony Frissore released this single right on time for Lunar New Year, and honestly, the timing could not have been better, and “Island Lantern Festival” is a lo-fi track with reggae undertones that moves at its own pace and does not apologize for it. Soft flutes, relaxed beats, and a subtle global influence make this one of those songs you put on and suddenly realize twenty minutes have passed.
The reggae groove woven into the lo-fi foundation is probably my favorite part of the whole thing. It gives the track a gentle sway that keeps it from ever feeling flat or sleepy, which is a real challenge in this style of music and Tony managed to keep things interesting without overcomplicating anything, and that balance is harder to pull off than most people realize.
There is also something genuinely uplifting about this track without it being over the top about it. It does not wave a flag at you. The positivity is quiet, the kind you pick up on after a couple of listens rather than the first thirty seconds. For an independent artist working across funk, groove, and global sounds, Tony Frissore is clearly someone who thinks carefully about the music he puts out. “Island Lantern Festival” is focused, unhurried, and worth your time.
If you are not already following Tony Frissore on social media, now is a great time to change that because he is the kind of artist whose next release you will want to catch the moment it comes out.
