Here’s a fun one. DownTown Mystic just dropped On E Street Remix, a six-track EP that does something most indie rock records can only dream about — it features the actual E Street Band rhythm section. That’s drummer Max Weinberg and bassist Garry Tallent, the same duo that powered Bruce Springsteen through the Born in the USA sessions. The fact that these recordings happened around that same era makes the whole thing feel like uncovering something that was sitting in a vault way too long.
The lead single “Hard Enough” is the obvious entry point — it’s got a swagger that earns its airplay, and the video crossing 550K YouTube views tells you it’s connecting with people. But “Way To Know” is the one that lingers. There’s a quiet weight to it that makes more sense once you learn it’s been placed in over 250 TV shows, starting with The Voice. Songs don’t land those kinds of placements by accident.
“Sometimes Wrong”, remastered by Leon Zervos (who’s worked with Pink and Crowded House), hits harder than you’d expect for a remix project. And the instrumental “And You Know Why (TV Mix)” is a nice curveball closer that shows Robert Allen actually thinks about sequencing.
