OpCritical just dropped their third single and it’s the kind of song that makes you feel something the moment the guitar kicks in. “Not My America” is a protest rock track that takes a hard look at the division and pettiness eating away at the country right now, and honestly, it hits.

The lyrics lean on anaphora, repeating “I was raised to be proud” at the start of each phrase before flipping it against the ugly behavior we keep seeing from people in power. It’s a clever structure that builds real tension and the chorus breaks into “give me, give me peace, peace, gotta have truth, truth”, which sounds almost desperate in the best way. It’s tired. It’s fed up. That reads as real.

The music video is where things get fun. It’s styled after the old Road Rash video game, complete with motorcycle chaos and zero rules, which is a genuinely good visual metaphor for the current political climate. Throw in desert shots, explosions, and a very final cliff moment at the end, and you have something that feels like an action movie that actually has something to say.

OpCritical has said they plan to keep releasing protest music as long as they feel it’s needed. Based on this track, that’s a good thing. Go find them, stream this, and follow along because there’s clearly more coming. Follow OpCritical on Instagram and stay current on new releases.
