Swiss rock band Rivermind dropped their third single. “Nightlight” has this low-simmering energy that sneaks up on you. It opens with a thick, distorted bass pulse that immediately sets the mood, and the guitars layer in gradually, adding texture rather than just noise. There’s real restraint here, which is harder to pull off than people think.
The vocals are a high point. They sit above the mix in this bright, almost weightless way that contrasts nicely with how heavy the low end feels. That push and pull is what gives the track its character. It’s got a dark tint to it, but the melody stays hopeful, which keeps it from feeling like it’s trying too hard to be brooding.
The song feels lived-in, like it came from actual late nights rather than a mood board. The production choices back that up. It’s polished enough to sound current, but not so clean that it loses its edge.
For a band that only started releasing music this year, they’re putting out stuff that sounds like they’ve been doing it for a decade. The EP lands in June and if “Nightlight” is any indication, it’s going to be worth your time. Go follow them on Instagram and show some support while they’re still playing small venues.
