Dark New Days is Blueprint Tokyo’s latest release and you will enjoy it. The Oklahoma City band has this thing where the songs feel like they were written for a specific moment rather than a general audience, and that specificity is what makes them stick.

“Orange Tiger” opens with a synth pulse that immediately sets a late-night, restless tone. It’s the kind of track that sounds better at 11pm than it does at noon and “Here’s Your Story” is where the band starts showing some real range, and it’s one of those songs that earns more plays the more you give it.

The EP’s emotional center is “Just Repeat Myself.” Andy Hale sounds like he means every word, and you can tell the difference between someone performing feeling and someone actually having it. This is the latter. Closer “Nite Valerie” brings everything down a notch in the best way, and it’s the song that’ll probably stay with you longest.

Fans of The War on Drugs or Nothing But Thieves will feel right at home here. This one’s worth the full listen, start to finish. Go give them a follow on Instagram, they’re worth keeping on your radar.
