Charlotte Clarke really nailed it with her latest single. The song compares a failing relationship to a sinking ship, which could’ve been cheesy but she makes it work. You can hear her struggling with that impossible choice: stay and lose yourself, or leave and deal with the heartbreak.

About halfway in, the song does this wild pivot. There’s an interlude that kind of stops you in your tracks, then the bridge comes in and suddenly you’re in a completely different headspace. It’s the kind of move that could backfire, but Clarke has the chops to make it land.

The ending really got me. She ditches the lyrics entirely and goes full orchestral mode. It’s like watching a movie climax unfold, except it’s all sound. You can actually hear her character walking away, finding light after all that darkness. Pretty powerful stuff.

Charlotte’s building a solid fanbase (theCHARmers, apparently) and I get why. She takes chances with her music and doesn’t second-guess herself.
