Evelí Ray’s “Elizabeth” is a song about her mom that doesn’t fall into the sappy trap you’d expect. The Barcelona artist wrote this as a love letter to her mother, but it opens up into bigger questions about how we relate to nature and each other.
Antonio Mazzei plays piano while Joan Miró Prat adds kalimba and electronics, and the two elements work together to create a cozy, mysterious vibe and Evelí’s voice sits right in the middle of it all, clear and direct.
I appreciate that the production doesn’t suffocate the song, and you can hear actual silence between the instruments, which is rare. The Grammy-winning engineers who mixed and mastered this clearly knew when to back off and let the music speak for itself.
If you’re tired of songs that sound like they were assembled in a lab, give this one a listen. “Elizabeth” was released last month, and her full album “Butterflies” is coming in 2026, which I’ll probably check out.
