LeAnn Rimes has been recording Christmas music for years, and this compilation brings together her best holiday work with some new tracks thrown in, it’s a solid listen if you’re into her style.
The album covers a lot of ground. You’ve got the upbeat stuff like “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” then she switches gears with her version of “The River” by Joni Mitchell. I really enjoyed the team-ups here. Luke Evans joins her on “There’s No Such Thing,” which has this fun, theatrical vibe, and the Gavin DeGraw duet “Celebrate Me Home” is probably my favorite moment on the record. Aloe Blacc shows up too, adding his soulful touch.
Rimes sounds great across all sixteen tracks. She clearly cares about this material, and it comes through in every performance. The new songs blend in nicely with her older recordings, so the whole thing flows well from start to finish.
This album works whether you’re hosting people or just need something on while you’re wrapping presents. It’s festive but not over the top, and emotional when it needs to be without getting too heavy.
