Seán R. McLaughlin and his band have put together a track that came from getting punched on an Aberdeen street but grew into a bigger reflection on leaving places and trying to figure out where you fit.

The song starts small and builds up over its three and a half minutes, Andy Monaghan from Frightened Rabbit co-produced it, and you can hear that influence without it taking over McLaughlin’s own sound. Tristan Dolce from LA adds backing vocals, and Sandy Batchelor (who’s also an actor currently in 28 Years Later) handles drums.

It’s Scottish indie rock with folk running through it, and the two sides work well together. The recording happened at McLaughlin’s home studio in rural Perthshire, then got mixed in Glasgow and mastered by Ed Woods. One notable decision, they’re skipping Spotify completely, the band cites payment issues and recent controversies with how the platform spends subscription money. You’ll find it on Bandcamp instead.
