Brothers Oisín and Cian Walsh are making a proper racket in their Trim studio, and honestly, we’re here for it. This four-track EP bounces between hardcore brutality and unexpected sweetness like a sugar-rushed kid in a candy store.
The title track comes out swinging hard – think getting tackled by a very enthusiastic golden retriever. But Spearside aren’t just noise merchants. “Planning Our Escape” shows they can write actual songs when they want to, trading the aggression for something that’ll make you feel things you weren’t expecting.
“All The Same” gets weird with new wave influences that shouldn’t work but absolutely do. It’s like watching your tough mate suddenly bust out dance moves – surprising but oddly compelling. The Gary Numan cover closes things out by turning “Are Friends Electric?” into something completely their own while keeping the original’s melancholy intact.
These Meath lads clearly spent their teenage years absorbing everything from garage rock to shoegaze, then decided to throw it all in a blender. The result is messy, loud, and surprisingly catchy. Four tracks that prove they’ve got range without losing their edge.
