Jungaji’s latest single ‘Kalkurr’ featuring his son Dean Brady is a powerful cultural and emotional statement that combines ancient language with modern soul. “Kalkurr” (meaning “the road” or “Milky Way”) is sung in the Gugu Yalanji language of southern Cape York and invites listeners on an intimate spiritual journey. The track is built on lush vocals and earthy instrumentation, bridging ancestral memory and modern-day reflection and carrying the weight of personal introspection and collective identity.
Jungaji’s voice is experienced and emotional and Dean Brady’s harmonies bring youthful depth. Their sound is timeless and fresh, a road hard traveled but rich in spirit and healing, together. “Kalkurr” is a milestone in Jungaji’s 30-year journey as a First Nations songman, as he prepares to release his debut solo album Betting On Blak.
