Remaking your own song is a risky move. Hand it to a producer, strip it back to just the vocals, and let someone else rebuild the whole thing from scratch? Even riskier. Night Wolf pulls it off though, and the result doesn’t sound like a compromise.
The marimba adds this bright, almost playful texture that you don’t expect, and the strings sit underneath it and never make things feel heavy. It’s a track that you need to add to your playlist right now.
Night Wolf apparently comes from a darker corner of the production world, so this is a noticeable shift in direction, and the production choices are deliberate, and the marimba alone is a bit of a statement. Trip hop is the genre tag, but this sits closer to indie pop in practice.
The Fods’ vocals are beautiful. They were the one element kept from the original and that continuity gives the track a focus that a lot of remakes lose. The lyrics lean hopeful, and the production doesn’t undercut that.
