Larry Karpenko flips the script on “Believe the Promise” by starting with the chorus instead of building up to it. It’s an unusual move that works because it gets straight to the heart of the song without any fluff.

The track was written for the International Pathfinder Camporee, a massive gathering of Seventh-day Adventist youth that happens every five years. Karpenko draws from Broadway musical style to tell the story of the Israelites wanting freedom from Egypt, but he connects it to today’s listeners dealing with their own struggles.

Recording at his own Kreation Records Studio in Loma Linda, Karpenko brought in his family to sing backup vocals. The family choir adds a genuine warmth that you can hear throughout the song. Karpenko grew up in the Pathfinder organization himself, so there’s real personal history behind the lyrics about God’s promises and faithfulness.
