Robbie Z decided to make an EP about missing things that never happened, which sounds weird until you actually listen to it. “Anemoia” jumps around between EDM-pop, surf rock, and ballads like someone scrolling their playlist on shuffle, but somehow it all works together. The 23-year-old Bulgarian artist living in London clearly had fun with this one. You get songs about summer flings, getting your heart broken, and daydreaming, all packed into one project that doesn’t take itself too seriously. He balances being goofy and genuine without forcing either vibe and the whole thing has this polished sound but still feels like a real person made it, not a committee. You can hear the jump from his earlier stuff like “dream creep” to now, but he kept that bratty charm that got him noticed back then, and Robbie’s already cooking up two more EPs apparently, so he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
The guy sold out shows in London and got a billboard in Times Square, so clearly people are paying attention. If you want to stay in the loop with whatever he releases next and see what he’s working on behind the scenes, you should follow him on Instagram at @robbiezmusic where he posts updates and actually interacts with people who listen to his music.
