The New Citizen Kane has created something genuinely weird with “Ratbag Joy”, and I mean that in the best possible way. After their Top 10 hit “Lump In Your Throat”, Kane keeps pushing boundaries. They’ve figured out how to make you think and dance simultaneously, which isn’t easy to pull off. The contrast between words and music creates this uncomfortable tension that somehow makes perfect sense.
“Ratbag Joy” is the second taste of their upcoming album “Psychedelika,” and honestly, I’m curious where they go next. Club remixes drop July 18th from LOVE FOUNDATION, Ruff Loaderz, and Red Man Runs. The song works because Kane commits fully to the contradiction. Dark thoughts, bright sounds – sometimes that’s exactly how life feels.
