Okayden’s collaboration with Polybit takes the original “Sugar Water” track and completely flips it on its head. The original featured VRDA’s vocals from Sydney, which Okayden had already chopped up and twisted around in his Melbourne studio. Then Polybit got his hands on it and decided to mess with those vocals even more.
The whole thing became this weird intercontinental project since Polybit was traveling for work while making the remix. You’ve got Melbourne, Sydney, and wherever Polybit happened to be at the time all contributing to one track. That’s pretty cool when you think about it.
Polybit didn’t just slap his style on top of the original. He actually went back and reworked all those vocal samples that Okayden had already put through the wringer. So you’re hearing vocals that have been processed, chopped up, and then processed again by a completely different producer.
This remix closes out Okayden’s whole remix album series, which apparently got him thinking differently about his own production skills. Sometimes it takes working with other people to realize your own strengths and weaknesses.
