Max Norton spent ten years playing drums for other people before deciding to do his own thing, and “The Wolves” makes a strong case for that decision.
This one’s about forward motion, about outrunning whatever’s on your tail and using that pressure as fuel. Max doesn’t overcomplicate it. He wrote it, played it, and produced it himself, which you can tell, there’s no compromise happening here and after bouncing between Nashville, London, and now Alabama, he’s landed on something that works.
You can hear the Muscle Shoals influence without it being heavy-handed. Norton talks about his favorite records coming from there, and he’s clearly absorbed some of that approach. The song has backbone to it. He’s played the big festivals – Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury, so he understands how to make music that holds up live, and “The Wolves” sounds built for that.
For someone who made his name supporting other artists, Max found his own lane here. He’s got shows coming up in Tampa and New York City in January, and if this single is any indication, they’ll be worth catching.
