Landis Wine steps away from his familiar band setups with White Laces and Opin to deliver something wonderfully grounded on this self-induced solo venture. Back in January, when severe winter weather swept across the East Coast with heavy layers of ice and snow, Wine picked up an acoustic guitar and found an open tuning that sparked an unexpected creative surge. He had not written an entire collection of songs completely on his own in more than ten years. Sitting alone with his ideas felt a little awkward and exposed during those initial chilly weeks, but he leaned straight into the impulse rather than backing down. He hunkered down inside his home studio and tracked everything by himself, building a world of sound from scratch.

The resulting release reconnects with his teenage years growing up in Southwest Virginia. During that era, he spent countless hours experimenting on an aging four-track recorder, which required him to learn how to become his own complete band. That scrappy independence shines through every single note here. The songs rely on warm open-tuned guitars, layered percussion, and subtle electronic textures that drift along like hazy late-night pop records, and he allowed each track to remain loose, rugged, and free to evolve on its own terms throughout the recording process. You can hear genuine character in every corner of the record, capturing a rare kind of honesty that feels both vulnerable and utterly liberating.

There is also a fantastic guest appearance from Kelsey Hulvey, who adds a sharp burst of vocal energy to one of the standout cuts. Once the tracking wrapped up, Wine shipped the audio files off to Jeff Zeigler for mastering, putting the final touches on a collection that feels both intimate and expansive. It is a wonderful portrait of an artist trusting his immediate creative instincts after years of collaborative work.
