The Mortal Prophets put together a really solid album here. John Beckmann handles most of the heavy lifting, with Tanner McGraw on lead vocals and Lawson Mars adding harmonies that float in and out at just the right moments, and the whole thing has this hazy, dreamlike quality that actually works.

The songs don’t rush anywhere. “My Future Past” and “Eyes in the Sky” move at their own pace, building these layered soundscapes that pull you along without being obvious about it and one track takes inspiration from the painter Cy Twombly, which tells you Beckmann isn’t just copying other bands, he’s drawing from different places.

The album stands on its own, blending vintage psychedelia with cleaner dream-pop production. “Mad Girl’s Love Song” and “Devil Doll” both nail these moody, cinematic moments that could soundtrack a rainy midnight drive.
