Anxiety gets talked about a lot in music these days, but IamSnap actually makes it feel like a character you can picture. On his new single “Last Round,” he frames it as a devil sitting on his shoulder, one that shows up right when he’s trying to write, work, or just get through the day. It’s a clever angle and it never feels forced.
The verses are where this track really earns its keep. Shannon Elliott (that’s IamSnap’s real name) raps about procrastination and self-doubt with a bluntness that actually makes you laugh a little, even though the subject is heavy and he’s just telling you what it’s like in his head, and that honesty is what makes the song land.
Lydia Caesar’s chorus is the payoff. After all that tension in the verses, her voice comes in warm and soaring, and the whole track opens up. It’s the kind of hook that sticks with you after one listen, and it gives the song somewhere to go emotionally. The production behind her, courtesy of Gore Ocean, builds from a quiet, moody intro into something with real weight by the time the beat drops fully in.
What I like most is that “Last Round” doesn’t wrap the struggle up with a neat bow. It’s about deciding to keep fighting, round after round, not about winning some final battle. That feels a lot more honest than most songs tackling this topic.
