Mary Knoblock’s new album PEACH is a lot to sit with, and I mean that as a compliment. The Portland singer-songwriter has been quietly building a catalog for years now, and this one feels like she finally said everything she’d been saving up.
Think hushed piano, wide open spaces in the mix, and Mary’s voice doing most of the heavy lifting. Her voice is the kind that gets under your skin after a few listens. Floaty but grounded. There’s a hypnotic quality to how she phrases things that made me want to go back to the beginning and start over more than once.
The album circles around love, the kind that almost happened, the kind that left a mark, and eventually something that feels like getting back to yourself, and it’s a familiar arc but Mary tells it with enough specificity that it doesn’t feel recycled. Tracks like “Mustang Clover” and “Maybe Tomorrow” drift from quiet and aching to something almost cinematic, like scenes from a film you haven’t seen yet.
If you’re into artists who take their time and mean every note, this one’s worth your afternoon. Give Mary a follow and keep up with what she’s doing next.
