I first found the Hamilton indie scene through random Bandcamp deep dives, and Bleach Dreamer has been on my personal radar for quite a while now. Their new four-song EP, Surrender, came out on May 19th, and I have been living with these tracks for the past week. It is a great little record that makes for excellent background music during quiet night drives.

The opening track, “Heaven Sent”, kicks things off with some cool, nostalgic 80s synth textures that immediately establish the mood, and from there, we get the lead single, “White Lighter”. This specific song is easily my favorite part of the project. I love the gritty, self-destructive energy buried under all the thick guitar fuzz. It sounds raw and completely honest, successfully avoiding any glossy bedroom-pop tropes.

The second half of the tracklist brings in some excellent local talent. Carrie Clark adds fantastic depth to “I Could See The World,” turning it into a huge, wide-open song. Then the final closer, “Jennifur”, features Erin Lyon. Her vocal harmonies on that heavy outro leave an unresolved weight in the air that really sticks around after the audio completely fades out.

It is impressive how a short project can feel so remarkably cohesive from front to back. The whole collection does a great job exploring those awkward, complicated feelings when you are trying to let go of someone.
