The New Citizen Kane drops a great EP. “Subconscious” comes with two radio mixes that actually serve a purpose – one for your rational side, another for when logic goes out the window. Both versions work because they acknowledge how conflicted we get when feelings hit unexpectedly.
“San Diego (Synthphonica Radio Mix)” has been doing numbers on streaming platforms, and you can hear why. “Bubble Gum Hot” takes you back to summer flings that burned bright and fizzled fast, with enough bite to avoid saccharine territory. The title track “Causing A Commotion” justifies its EP-exclusive status, while the reworked older songs prove Kane knows when to leave well enough alone and when to shake things up.
The disco-funk foundation keeps everything moving, but Kane leaves room to breathe between the beats. He’s found a sweet spot between danceability and actual substance, which isn’t as common as it should be in electronic music these days.
This EP works whether you want to move or just vibe out with headphones. Kane has built something cohesive here while teasing his bigger PSYCHEDELIKA project coming later. You should follow The New Citizen Kane on Instagram to keep up with all the creative madness he’s cooking up for that ambitious multi-media universe he’s constructing.
