E.W. Harris’s new EP, “Machine Living in Relief“, is not like anything you’ve listened to this year. Incorporating folk and electronic elements, Harris creates a futuristic and dystopian environment that is still realistic and relatable. The six-track release is set in his self-created universe of Rocket City—a dreamlike version of New York, 250 years into the future, where buildings are rocket ships and characters move through a world of dreams and emotions.

This EP feels handcrafted, textured, and personal. I liked the way it uses acoustic elements to discuss such topics as anxiety, addiction, and identity with the help of characters who are half-human and half-machine. Harris’s voice and vision are crystal clear—there’s a warmth in the music that makes the strangeness of his world feel familiar.

If you’re into music that takes chances, tells stories, and makes you think, “Machine Living in Relief” is worth your time. Want to hear more? Follow the artist on Facebook and Instagram.
