Eddie Cohn’s new single “Get Back My Way” starts quiet and ends loud, which is exactly how he wanted it. The Los Angeles musician spent the early part of 2025 getting his real estate license, and this song is basically him admitting that was a mistake, not the license itself, but trying to ignore the creative itch while chasing a new career.
The track opens with acoustic guitar and Cohn’s voice before the band kicks in. Brett Farkas handles the electric guitar parts, Dan Lutz plays bass, and Phil Peterson recorded cello from Seattle. It’s got that ’90s grunge DNA mixed with the quieter solo stuff Eddie Vedder did for Into the Wild. Cohn clearly knows what he’s going for here.
The lyrics deal with remembering to take care of yourself when you’re busy stacking up goals and responsibilities. Nothing groundbreaking, but he delivers it without being preachy. His vocal performance has weight to it, and the way the acoustic and electric guitars play off each other gives the song momentum. They recorded everything remotely across different home studios in LA, Pasadena, Seattle, and Hawaii. Kevin Penner mixed and mastered it from his place in Hawaii.
If you want to hear more from Eddie Cohn and find out when he’s actually going to play live shows again, you should follow him on Instagram because he’s been away from performing for a while and 2025 might be his comeback year.
