Sam Palladio’s new single hits that specific sweet spot where a song sounds great at a party but is actually kind of heartbreaking. That tension is the whole point, and it works.
He co-wrote “Glitter” with Aron Rosing during a stretch that sounds genuinely rough. He was getting back into dating while also dealing with the loss of his dog and grandfather at the same time. That’s a lot to carry. The production reflects it, this warm shimmery indie-pop sound that feels celebratory on the surface but a little hollow underneath.
I keep coming back to the image he described: picturing someone out dancing on the other side of the world while he’s sitting in his childhood bedroom processing grief, and that’s a specific feeling, and the song earns it.
Sam’s background is interesting here. He spent years on ABC’s Nashville, worked with Dave Sardy and Chris Shiflett, absorbed a lot of Americana. None of that shows up directly in “Glitter”. It’s firmly in indie-pop territory. That’s not a criticism. It’s actually the point. He’s figured out what he sounds like on his own terms.
He’s playing the Ryman Auditorium on June 26 and 27. A good room for a song this cinematic. Go listen. And follow him on Instagram so you know what he does next.
