Michellar just dropped her first Spanish song and it’s pretty solid. The San Francisco artist teamed up with Jiji Picazo on vocals and Lloyd Miller producing, pulling inspiration from “Bésame Mucho” – you can hear those classic Latin vibes running through it.
The whole thing centers around how one amazing night with someone can stick with you forever. Not exactly groundbreaking subject matter, but Michellar sells it without getting all dramatic about it. Her Spanish and Filipino background comes through naturally here, and apparently this connects back to her great-grandparents being from Spain.
They recorded at Women’s Audio Mission, and the cool part was how Michellar and Picazo worked together translating the original English lyrics during the actual recording sessions. You can tell they were figuring it out as they went, which gives the track this spontaneous feel.
Right now she’s mostly doing open mic nights around town while working on more releases for the year. Word is she might put together a proper show later on. She’s already talking about doing Filipino songs next, which makes sense given how much Latin influence is baked into Philippine culture anyway.
