At 14, this Australian kid isn’t trying to sound older than he is, which makes “Speaker” work better than it probably should. He raps about believing in yourself and speaking up, but he does it without sounding like he’s reading from a motivational poster.

The beat lets him breathe between bars, and JNZI uses that space well. He bounces between singing and rapping in a way that feels natural, not like he’s checking boxes. You can hear hip-hop and R&B in there, but it’s mixed up enough that it doesn’t sound like he’s copying anyone specific. Most new artists making music either sound way too serious or completely unserious. JNZI finds middle ground that actually makes sense. He’s confident but not cocky, ambitious but not desperate. The whole thing clocks in at the right length too, no unnecessary extras or drawn-out outros.

“Speaker” is a decent first step from someone who clearly has ideas about where he wants to go. You should definitely follow JNZI on Instagram because keeping tabs on artists this early in their run is always interesting, and this guy seems like he’s got the right mix of talent and common sense to actually pull off whatever he’s planning next.
