Shaky’s new single “In a Heartbeat” is a solid track about looking back at your twenties and realizing how much simpler things used to be. He’s not trying to make it some grand statement, it’s just an honest reflection on those years when you were running around Philadelphia, playing shows, and figuring life out as you went.
The guitar work here is really strong. You get those fuzzy, distorted tones mixed with catchy melodies that stick around after the song ends. It’s easy to see why people compare him to Dinosaur Jr. and The Cars, he’s got that same ability to write hooks that hit you right away while keeping the energy up.
One thing I appreciate is how Shaky keeps it grounded. He’s singing about his time running The Rathaus and being in Cold Fronts, but he never makes it sound like some golden era that was better than everything now. He just misses certain moments, and that’s something pretty much everyone can relate to. We all have those nights or people we’d love to revisit, even just for an hour.
The song clocks in at a good length and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It gets in, says what it needs to say, and leaves you wanting to put it on again. If the rest of Kinda Wild II has this same quality, Shaky’s got a winner on his hands. Make sure you’re keeping up with everything Shaky has coming up by following him on social media down below.
