I went in expecting a typical bedroom-studio rap single and ended up running it back twice before I even got to the write-up, Ray Gibbz did everything himself on this one, wrote it, produced it, built the beat, and you can hear that control in how tight the whole track sits.
The song is about family pressure and the grind of trying to make a rap career actually work. I love it because he’s just telling you what’s going on, and that’s honestly what got me.
He recorded this in his condo, same setup he always uses, nothing fancy, but the mix and master here sound noticeably cleaner than most home releases I hear. He said it took him about two weeks this time, twice as long as usual, and you can tell that extra patience shows up in the final product.
The verses have room to breathe, the beat stays out of the way when it needs to, and the whole thing plays like a guy actually working through something, not performing for a crowd.
If you like hip-hop that skips the theatrics and just tells it straight, “Hope and Need” is worth your time. Do him a solid and go follow him, this feels like someone worth catching early.
