While clinging to debris, the narrator wrestles with vivid hallucinations and heavy existential questions and the raw vulnerability feels genuinely personal, yet the heavy tone gets balanced by an underlying sense of love keeping hope alive.
The sound production builds a really cool atmosphere. Recording everything DIY in Washington DC area basements gives the whole piece a raw, authentic texture. Toward the end, a mesmerizing rotating synth line starts falling apart under a fast guitar arpeggio. It creates a dreamlike quality that pulls you right into the narrative.
