Ben Ripani is back with a fresh batch of songs, and it feels like a reset button for his music. After taking a break from writing, the Chicago native who moved to Nashville is dropping an EP that deals with some heavy personal stuff. It is a project born out of navigating tough moments like losing a parent and going through a divorce, so you can imagine the kind of weight these tracks carry.
The tracks feel grounded and direct, and Ben reunited with his old bandmates for this recording, and that familiar chemistry shows in how tight the instrumentation is. The piano work from Chris Nakielski stands out, adding a warm layer to the rhythm section.
The production gets out of the way of the stories. You can hear that Ben wrote these pieces because he needed to get these thoughts out of his head, not to hit a deadline. Tracks like “Runaways” and “Weigh” are personal favorites, nailing that tough balance between tight Americana arrangements and total emotional clarity. They just present the feelings as they are.
If you want to catch these tunes live, he is playing at The Cobra in Nashville and Montrose Saloon in Chicago. Check out his updates online and show some support.
