Okay, this one snuck up on me. “Personal Martyr” starts so quiet I almost skipped past it on my playlist, then that chorus comes in and I had to stop what I was doing. There’s a trance-y pulse running through the whole thing, but it’s got real strings and percussion under it too, so it doesn’t flatten out into generic synth mush like a lot of “cinematic” tracks do.
The lyric is what actually stuck with me. He’s asking himself if any of his sacrifices meant anything, if there’s a point to who he’s become. Not exactly a fresh topic for a song, sure, but the way he sings it, low, kind of worn out, makes it feel less like a performance and more like something he needed to get out of his system.
I’ve had that chorus looping in my head for two straight days, which is honestly the only test I trust anymore. Catchy, but not lazy-catchy. It earns the repeat.
And knowing he wrote the whole thing himself, every lyric, every melody line, plus directed and edited it all, you can hear that. One person’s fingerprints, not a committee trying to chase a sound.
