“Down The West Coast” is the kind of track that hits right when you need a summer breather. Olivier Cornu, the Lausanne-based mind behind Moon Construction Kit , really hit the sweet spot here. It feels like taking a calm, sunny drive along the ocean with the windows rolled all the way down.
The song opens with a soft hum of distant guitars, gentle flutes, and bright synths before the kick drum kicks in to give it some steady movement and what stands out to me is the vocal work. The harmonies are super clean and stack up smoothly as the track builds, eventually adding a whole choir into the mix. It pulls from that vintage late-60s Beach Boys chamber-pop sound, blending warm woodwinds with modern psych-pop layers.
I love how the arrangement feels massive by the end, only to strip back down to those quiet opening wind and string sounds. It keeps you hooked through the entire run time. Cornu has been putting out solid singles since his 2022 debut EP, but this one might be his best work yet. It is warm, nostalgic, and perfect for your chill playlists.
